May 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This workshop will take a brief tour of the living traditions of shadow puppetry around the world, and introduce you to contemporary practice with the use of modern technology.  It will be a hands-on day, focusing on the use of shadow in theatrical work as fabricated actors, as powerful images, and as kinetic set design. We will explore light sources, shadow puppet design, mechanics, construction, and manipulation techniques.

Instructor:  David Powell

David has observed shadow puppet theatre in Indonesia, and researched the shadow theatre of many other countries.  He has experimented with different light sources, projection surfaces, and puppet making materials, and is open to new discoveries. With Puppetmongers he has used shadow imagery in several productions, as well as creating the full length show Shuttle Dreams, presented at the Music Gallery with live musical accompaniment and available on Vimeo.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”5629″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
